I’ve never been very good at trends, I’m either too early or too late, or they just don’t agree with me. I mentioned the Scandi monochrome trend in my recent post about kids prints - I tried, but I love colour too much.
I was trying to remember all the other illustration trends over recent years. You knew they were having a moment because Etsy would be flooded with them, even before you saw them turn up on the high street. There were the woodland creatures, then the flamingos, the pineapples, the sloths, the mushrooms. And who can forget the birds. In the mid-noughties EVERYTHING had a bird on it!
It can be hard to keep up with. As a licensing artist I often get call outs from card companies with a list of designs they need and a moodboard. I suddenly feel compelled to throw everything I’m working on in the air and immediately start designing sloth-wearing-a-bowler-hat thank you cards.
So in a year when I decided to pause the treadmill and make what I want to make, I was pretty happy to wake up to a trend email from Pinterest because, by golly, I think I’m actually on trend for once! I’ll enjoy it while it lasts.
Playfield is in my Minted store in various sizes, lots of framing options and it is thoroughly on trend ;-)
